Experiment 01 / Career guidance · SIH 2024
SavvyAI
The Smart India Hackathon 2024 project, in its original repository: personalized career guidance from aptitude, interests and a parsed résumé.
2024
Team project. Built with the SIH1781 team; the repository is the version carried through the hackathon.
01 / The problem
What it set
out to do.
A student asking “what should I do next?” needs more than a list of job titles. The answer depends on what they are good at, what they want, and which specific skills are missing.
- 01Profile & résumé intake
- 02Graded aptitude assessment
- 03AI recommendation
- 04Roadmap, courses & résumé
A simplified view of how the code is organized, not a production infrastructure diagram.
02 / The approach
Decisions beneath
the surface.
- 01
Profile the learner from three directions: stated aspirations, an aptitude test, and their own résumé.
- 02
Score aptitude from a graded question bank rather than a single fixed quiz, so the assessment can move with the learner.
- 03
Turn the profile into recommendations an LLM can explain, then attach concrete courses to the gaps it finds.
- 04
Keep the output usable: a roadmap, a generated résumé, and a profile the learner can return to.
03 / Inside the repository
Where to look
in the code.
app.pyThe Flask application: authentication, profile, aptitude flow, chatbot, roadmap and community routes.
dataset/GAQ/The aptitude question bank, filed as Easy, Medium and Hard documents so difficulty can be varied.
dataset/NPTEL_Course_details/Course records used to answer a skill gap with something specific to study.
resume_parser.pyReads an uploaded PDF résumé and extracts education, skills and experience into the profile.
resume_generator.pyWrites the profile back out as a formatted résumé, with a choice of templates.
course_finder.pyMatches recommended skills against the course dataset.
templates/The screens: aptitude, questions, results, roadmap, suggestions, learning, chatbot, profile and community.
04 / Technologies
The working set.
05 / What it left behind
The project our team won Smart India Hackathon 2024 with, and the starting point for a coauthored CONIT 2025 paper.
